BC songwriters, Kate Main and Warren Murfitt have been creating music together for well over a decade. They began their writing collaboration playing in East Vancouver’s “Saloon/Salon’, a monthly, off the grid, open mic night, featuring some of Vancouver’s finest musicians and artists. This event was the birthplace of a songwriting partnership which ultimately led to their first recording “Nineteen56” as the duet, Late Thaw”. (2009).
Although they write separately, the two develop their songs together, searching for common ground, with Kate on vocals and upright bass, and Warren on vocals and acoustic guitar, both providing harmonies for each other’s songs.
Their writing and composing brings voice to the landscapes they’ve travelled, the heartaches they’ve had, (and the whiskey they’ve shared!). It’s these common threads which knit their music together into a rich tapestry of song and story.
After a few years of sharing their ever-growing catalogue in roadhouses, (Tractorgrease, The Heatley), house concerts (Wild Rose Tour, AB), festivals (Northwest FolkLife, WA, Vancouver Folk Music Festival, BC), they have just released their third album, A Little Bit Gone. This is a collection of bluesy cheek, hymns to fallen family, and stories of the Prairies, with Bob Hamilton (Dyet and the Love Soldiers, Undertaking Daddies) at Old Crow Studios in Whitehorse. YT.
